Results Summary
This calculator determines the results based on the following standard financial formula for FIRE Formula:
Variables Glossary
- Target Corpus
- Total savings needed to achieve FIRE
- Years to FIRE
- Estimated years until financial independence
- FIRE Age
- Your age when you reach financial independence
- Safe Withdrawal Amount
- Annual amount you can safely withdraw in retirement
The FIRE (Financial Independence, Retire Early) calculator determines the corpus needed to generate enough passive income to cover your expenses indefinitely. Using the safe withdrawal rate (typically 4%), it calculates how much you need and how long it will take to get there.
What is the 4% rule in FIRE?
The 4% rule suggests that you can withdraw 4% of your portfolio annually (adjusted for inflation) and have a high probability of your savings lasting 30+ years. Your FIRE target is typically 25× your annual expenses (100% ÷ 4% = 25).
What withdrawal rate should I use for early retirement?
For early retirement (30+ year horizon), many FIRE advocates recommend a more conservative 3-3.5% withdrawal rate. This increases your target corpus to 28-33× annual expenses but provides a higher margin of safety for a longer retirement.
